I had the worst allergies this summer than I have ever had. For about two months I had a raspy voice, runny nose, stuffy nose, itchy eyes and the worst part? I couldn’t taste. I really dislike not being able to taste yummy foods! And it always makes me laugh at myself when I lose the ability to taste. Because you would think I wouldn’t eat as much of something when you can’t fully taste it. But, it never seems to stop me!
One day I was driving my daughter to her day camp. I had cooked her some bacon to eat on the way. When she was finished with it she offered me a piece. And as I chewed and ate it, I told her thank you for sharing and said, “Hmmm, that’s good bacon.” “But I thought you couldn’t taste, Mom. How do you know it’s good?” she said. “It’s good because I’ve tasted it before. I know what bacon tastes like. Even though I can’t taste it completely, I know it’s good, because, bacon is good!”
Pause. I love that the Lord reminded me of this today. I don’t know what kind of season you are in. But I do know we are all either in the middle of a storm, coming out of one, or heading in. Life is tough. But the Lord is good. Even though we may have to face some tough stuff; maybe the worst you’ve ever had, I pray you know and can remember that the Lord is good because you’ve tasted of His goodness before.
Because it’s remembering in those tough seasons; when you can’t fully taste, that brings hope. It’s remembering who He is and what He has done that we can say He’s good, even when we can’t understand all the whys of the things we are faced with.
But you’ve tasted. And you know. You’ve tasted and you know He.Is.Good. Remember?
